The fuel tank on my 1989 320i 4 door is leaking where the filler tube enters the tank (c. 150mm steel tube). smell of fuel when tank full, check with car over my pit, damp fuel around base of above mentioned tube. Quick going-over with wire brush, hey presto - pin holes all around the tube. Have tried fix with chemical metal- impregnated bandage, but still leaks!
Don't want to weld it for obvious reasons!
Is this a common problem? - I can't find any references to similar probs on the forum.
May induce heart attack and get price for replacement from dealer, but suspect will cost more than car is worth.
Anyone got a spare? (have put post in items wanted)
Any advice/miracle cures welcome!
