Morning all, first time on and would apppreciate a little help....

I have a 1988 325i Touring, all seems well, apart from an intermittent electrical(?) problem. When driving along the engine just suddenly dies, the rev counter drops (though the lights and other electrics are still working). It then just coasts until it picks up again, usually only a few seconds later, though sometimes I have to pull over and restart the engine. Any ideas?

Could this be down to the ECU? If so, where is it located on the 325i and are they easy to replace? I see that there are a few for sale on the site.

Any help would be greatly appeciated, cheers

Matt

I've had that problem as well. Changed everything I could - INCLUDING the engine...... after I changed the engine, I still had the same problem.... until one mechanic was looking at my second hand dizzy and said to me - theres a bit of corrosion in here... on the points. Cleared it up perfectly.

I needed a new engine btw, old one had a holed piston, would have cost more to do the piston than the engine.

Thanks guys,

I've jjust replaced the fuel pump relay, see if that has any effect. If not, I'll keep on down the list of possible culprits...
