problems idleing - 318is

my car has been on ramps for about a month cus my steering rack went, i have just started it to make sure the battery doesnt die and it started first tim e no problem

i left it idleing for about 4 mins fine then all of a sudden it started revvin itself to 3-4k so i turned it off started the engine again and it started idleing at 2k and increasing the revs constantly

does it just need a good run when the steering rack is on???

hello! my iS would run a lumpy idle and fluctuate a little but not as much as it sounding like its blipping its throttle tho. maybe ur idle valve has seen better days, i used to have a 320i that would rev itself upto about 2500 rpm when driving from cold but it normally be ok by the time i got to work.was never a problem to start though but i did get funny looks from people at traffic lights! hope this helps somehow!
