The original switches in my Touring were the light-up type and they were working perfectly.
I did the E36 switch mod and these don't light-up even though they have the diodes(??) in.
I've just retro-fitted electric rear windows, and before I fitted another pair of E36 switches in the console, I tried my original switches in the loom plugs. They didn't light-up. Nor do they light-up in the rear doors.

Are the rear door switches supposed to illuminate?
Have I really got 4 E36 switches that are duff?
Could it be something to do with having to connect the two seperate earth wires from the E30 plug to only one terminal on the E36 switches?

I know I'm being picky, but as they've got lights in, I'd like them to work if possible.

TIA
Stuart.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

E36 switches have lamps in them. They are connected between pin 3, which, on the E36 was the green/grey 12V+ supply from the circuit breaker, and pin 5, which is a brown earth.
IIRC, E36 window switches come in different colours, and only one colour is correct for the E30 application, but I don't know why and what the difference is.

I think the e36 had yellow illumination and red for the M cars but I could be wrong?
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
