what exactly is the difference between a manual top and a power top when it comes to getting it recovered? I get a different price for each, with the power top being more. I have a spair manual frame. Will it bolt to the car the same? If so, can I place my manual frame on the car that came factory with power but has been disconnected due to the motors now working?
I have no planes on fixing the power top anytime soon. My other E30 cabbie is manual top, and it's not like it's that much trouble to do it manually....especially comapred to the price of fixing the power top mechanisms......
any thoughts?????

to my knowledge the only difference is an additional piece of fabric that ensures the forward section folds into itself correctly.
yes a manual frame will go on a car designed for electric, but you will need to adjust the amount of shims under the rear fixings to get it to sit right. not too hard but time consuming.
but you will need to fit the clips and brackets that close the manual roof cover. should not be too hard but you will need to install the two catches, the cables and the handle. you will know what i mean as you have a manual roof cabbie.
of course you will also need to remove the motors and arms that folddown the roof anf open/close the roof cover.

and over here (in Europe), the broken motor(s) usually go for good money on Ebay - I believe people buy them as spare parts; you don't say if the housing is torn out (common) or the motor has burnt out (rare).
You would probably get back as much money as it costs to do the power2manual conversion!
