Hi there, I'm new around these parts and need some help?? The car is a 1988 318i (M40 engine), bit of a minter, low-ish miles, been in the family from new etc etc. Runs really sweet, starts 1st turn of the key. Developed an anoying problem today though; it started ok after being stood overnight but after a few miles when the engine had warmed up it just spluttered and died. It re-started, but wouldn't rev, as if it wasn't fuelling ok. I left the car to cool off and then it restarted fine, but again, once warmed up it just coughed and died, barely ticking over. Without thoroughly investigating the problem, it seems that it's just fueling on the cold start injector when warmed up? Does this sound plausible? If so could it be down to the thermo-time switch? Or something more sinister? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Oh, and if I get this sortedcan I join some of you on the cruise down to Guildford coming up soon?
cheers

The M40 doesn't have a cold start injector, it uses the blue temperature sensor to determine engine temperature and adjusts the fuelling through the normal injectors to suit.
This blue sensor is known to fail and costs about £12 for the part.
