i have just replaced the battery on the car. the check control light for "Engine Oil" is now lit and doesn't go out. it only came on after the battery was dissconected and then reconnected. i have checked the oil level and its at the half way mark. so that should be ok. i can't see that it has leaked any and it was last night so why now? any ideas folks.

also is this light to indicate low oil level or low pressure. or either/both.

any help apreciated guys.

cheers

was thinking about that, but why would have i hit a wire for the oil sensor when the battery is in the boot????

and it is possible that the bulb has gone to earth but this may have also blown a fuse if it arced?

just hoping that the sensor or check unit needs to be reset in some way.

I know after a battery disconection the OBC sometimes looses it's config. The car runs like a bag of nails and needs to be left on idle for 10 min to re-map. However I've not heard of it doing anything with the oil preasure bulb

yip...OBC lost all its times dates etc....let the car idle for 20 mins to be on the safe side but the oil light on the check control panel (on the roof) is now lit for no apparrent reason.

Hi.

I had the same problem with the C2 last week.

disconneceted the battery for a couple of days due to alarm trouble. Reconnected it, started it up and the check control engine oil light wouldnt go out. Oil level was fine.

I was a little worried and phoned the local specialist (who i'd picked the car up from a couple of days earlier). He said its only a level sensor and not to worry. I drove it around as normal for about 2 days, started it up and the light was gone!!

The check panel works fine and everything is normal again!!

Could be the OBC or ECU as you disconnected the battery.

I'm no specialist, but i wouldnt worry!!

Hope that helps :D

The couple of times I've come across a check control LED that wouldn't go out the fault has been in the roof module itself. Never got around to opening up the module and finding the fault at component level, because on both occasions I had a spare unit available.
The later type oil level sensor unit, ( in the sump, below the altenator), has two sensors. One for static level, and one for dynamic level.
The static level (blue/purple wire) is earthed for oil OK,open circuit for oil low.
The dynamic sensor, (blue/white wire) is open circuit, except for a shunt resistor, for oil OK, and connected to earth for oil low.

The oil level low light comes on on my touring if the oil gets to around half way, it may be worth topping it up and the light might go out.

Simple, but effective.

If not, then electrics it is.

Would think some stray welding current finished off some dodgy semiconductor device in the check module.

Chris.......
The check panel in my Touring sometimes does weird things. The way I see it is that the system is a bit 'gimmicky' anyway. Add to that the fact that electrics never really stand the test of time. Then factor in on a car of the age that ours all are now you're bound to get a dodgy earth connection now and again.
Therefore, if a check light comes on, check the oil level (or whatever) and if it's ok, just live with the light until it decides of its own accord to go out. They usually do!!
At the end of the day, there's no substitute for checking lights and levels yourself.
Just my humble opinion.
Stuart.

My oil check comes on when the oil is halfway down the dipstick, maybe your car does want a drop and it was just a pure coincidence it happened at the same time, whack a litre in and see what happens. :D

well it only has one green light left before it needs an oil service and it is half full so i will just leave it for 2 or 300 mile till it needs doing and keep checking the oil every few days to make sure that it is not going anywhere. if needds be then i will stick half alitre or so in till it can go to the dealer for a service.

those service lights are not entirely acurrate, plus it's 30min job a monkey can do so why pay for it? do it yourself and keep the receipt for the oil and note the milege and date each time?!

I felt like that about mine when I bought it. I had done all my own servicing and repairs for 30 years up 'til then.
After 2 sevices and a cambelt change, I decided to just get my local garage to change the oil & filter, put the lights out and stamp the book. I do everything else and keep all the receipts.
BTW Chris. I reckon that I get 1000 miles per light on mine. Just had an oil service, 7100 miles since the Inspection 1 and the red light came on about 100 miles before I got to the garage. I always book-in when the yellow has been on about 500 miles.
Cheers
Stuart.
