Bit of a daft question, but does anybody know what the useable service life would be for original springs and shocks fitted to a 318is?
Only asking as I am about to start using my car again for serious mileage every day and have set myself a budget to sort out anything that may need doing. As the suspension has never been changed on the car, I was wondering if this might be a worthwhile change.
Suspension life?

Most shocker manufactyrers recommend changing after 50K, apparently they can deteriorate rapidly after this.
However this could be just a repeat business sales ploy as you would never notice a marked change if you drive the car every day.
Don't recall ever seeing a suggested life span for springs.

springs should go on and on shocks will want doing by 100,000 in my experience and this will make a big difference to the car.

I had new shocks put on the back of my car and the difference was stunning. It needed new shock mounts as well, and the old shocks were totally knackered so the difference might not be as much for you, but I'd still recommend it. The back now sticks way beyond what it used to and the whole thing just feels smoother and tighter. Which is a good thing ;)

Around 80,000 miles for most suspensino before you should change it. You don't tend to notice it deteriorate as it happens over time but get into someone else's who has it done and the difference would be like night and day. On my Civic Type-R I had an front on accident at 35k miles and they replaced the front suspension. I felt like I had recieved a new car back it felt so good!
Drove my mates Sport whose on the original suspension it seems after 140k miles and it feels like it's US spec with super soft suspension. Corners I do at 75mph comfortable he slides out at 65mph!
Suspension is one of those things that people do not tend to change until they develop a fault but they are actually wear and tear components.

I have changed suspension on every single car I've owned and it makes a massive difference eveb if you change for OEM parts.
