Engine is a 95' M50tu Vanos with EWS system going into an 89' 320i Cab.
Box is from an E36 M3 with a lightened M20 flywheel & M20 starter.
On the M50 loom, there are three wires to the starter motor; two thin ones for the solenoid and a thick red that goes to the main terminal.
When I pulled the engine & loom, I don't recollect seeing any other wires to the starter.
I'm assuming that the thick red goes from the starter to the alternator and I can't see any of the wires in the original M50 loom being man enough to take the current draw for starter cranking so the question is, will I need a seperate wire from the battery down to the starter?
Help would be appreciated guys :?

Yeah, there should be a fairly meaty red wire between the alternator and the big bolt terminal on the starter, and then there'll be a GIANT wire already on the car (it's black on mine) which goes to the bolt terminal on the starter too and supplies the juice to turn the engine over.

Pretty sure that's right but someone'll no doubt be along shortly to confirm or otherwise :)

Sounds the same as mine, when i did the conversion i moved the battery into the boot so got a nice big cable running all the way from there straight to the starter motor.

Thanks guys. :D
I was sure there should be a meaty wire from the batt to the starter, but I just could'nt remember seeing one on the donor car.
Must be an age thing
