Hi folks,

new on here although I have been reading for quite a while.

however........ time to get posting.......

car has failed its mot  and will be off the road from monday. so I have given myself about 6 months to get it sorted ( ready for the summer )

first job is I have to change the entire car loom on my 86 cabby 325i. I was about to post in the wanted section but need more info first.

will any loom from any 2 door pre or post facelift fit? or do i need to be more specific? For example the car has check control, electric windows.

i would also like to add smiley head lights at some point.

So I would like to know the best loom for the job, or if thats not avaiable how i can get one to fit !

Cheers :D

Well check control is part of the loom so that narrows your search down to 6 pots only.

The engine loom connector is what you also need to be looking for on an 86 model, this is around the changeover when they started using the round type of plug.

Electric window loom isnt to much bother to swap over.

Whats wrong with your loom?

the loom is completely shot - infact so is most of the car, however i'm up for a challange ( i think ! ) the car has been at some point in it's life been converted from left hand to right hand drive. VERY badly. So plan is to strip whole car back to the shell and start again. it may not be worth it. but at least I will have some fun trying ( I hope ) if you are brave enough to look I will post a pic of the glove box..... but ........

it's not pretty

thats insane, what a mess, i reakon your right to swap loom rather then sort that crap out, spend a few hours in a breakers pulling dash and other trim, take pictures of where loom is fixed and then remove it, when you take connections of switchs to get trim/dash out, plug them back into loom after, themn you dont need to label it up or remember what plugs into what, saying that most connectors are different and you wont be able to get them mixed up, good luck, should be to bad tho if you have any experience taking interiors out before

not much experience of taking the inside out willg, as i said though, i am going to give my self six months or so to get the car sorted as it has a lot of " issues" . for example, the interior itself is a little dodgy to say the least, but i have replacment bits building up for that. as i see it there is no choice in replacing the loom. if that is not sorted then it's not the basis of a reasonable project to take on!!

thanks for the good luck i think i will need it ! :D
