Drove my car to work this morning and all was fine. Got in to drive home this evening and I couldnt select any gears.

Managed to get it into 5th (whilst idling), although it was very stiff. I could then select all the other gears as normal. If I then relased the clutch (in neutral) and then depressed it again to select a gear, I was back to the same problem.

The clutch doesnt seem to be dragging, its just a git to get into gear when the car is stopped and the clutch has just been depressed.

Once the car is in gear and driving it was fine.

Car has new clutch and slave cylinder and its not using clutch fluid, so would it be the master cylinder? - only thing not changed when I fitted the 2.5 to the touring.

Cheers

It may just be the linkage from the bottom of the lever to the gearbox.

Ok, problem solved, Well not really, it just went away

Annoying problem with the starter now, or probably the solenoid.

I think both are a result of the amount of flood water I drove through to get to work yesterday - one of the little depth markers on the side of the road was at 1.5ft and I could see the bow wave just lapping at the edge of the bonnet 8O

I thought it got deep all of a sudden :?

Yeah, I didnt realise how deep it got until it was too late. I couldnt see the depth marker as it was round a corner and once I was in the water and going, I wasnt about to stop. I wont be doing it again

On the plus side, I now know the touring doesnt leak

As long as the car keeps up with the bow wave it should be ok - if the wave gets away with you, thats when things get bad - I was taught that on an off road course when I was 15, but I am in no way saying people should try their luck in deep floods based on that.

I have had water lapping at the washer jets on my diesel Mk3 Cav before. That was fun because I knew it didnt matter what happened to the car, but still scary as f*ck :?

We had bad rain a couple of years ago and it had flooded the road going to my house, both upper and lower ways into the estate, one was under a narrow railway bridge with a Transit sitting dead in it, the upper way had a lake about 100yards long and from footpath to footpath. 2 dead Mercs, 1 dead 525 and 3 dead fords all sitting it.. I had a Pug206 at the time and got bored waiting so went for it, stuck the passenger side on the kerb as it had the ECU and intake on that side, 2nd gear 3000rpm.. water was 4" above the doorskin on the driverside lol.. made it through no problems and got a round of applause for my efforts. Was also deeper than I thought and I ran out of kerb about 75 yards in. Suprisingly it didn't leak or die either.

Not be doing any of that carry on in the touring, didn't care if the 206 expired (it's French) but I wouldn't be a happy person if I broke my tourer.

Strange one on the gearbox/clutch issue, could it have been the synchromesh wearing? But it's strange it 'went away'. Other thing that springs to mind is a little airlock in the clutch system that cleared itself.
