Hi holks. Taken off the thermostae houseing, and it dont have a gasket just a rubber ring that sits in a rebate is that correct. When I put it back should I use a sealing gel/paste :?

I take it you mean the thermostat cover, not the housing. That bolts to the head and has a rectangular gasket.
For the cover just a new O ring should do it, they normaly come with a new thermostat, or are only a few pence on there own.
The old one will look square if you cut it and look at the end, they never sit back in the same place and normaly go brittle anyway.
There is NO nucleus.
