My e30's driver's side window has been making funny squeaks and clicks for a while, and never shut fully. Yesterday I wound it up and it ended up at 45 degrees with a corner sticking up above the roofline!
Taking it apart, I can see the white plastic wheels have come out of the two metal channels attached to the bottom of the glass.
I can't for the life of me work out how to get them back in.
How do you do it?! Is it a matter of removing the metal channels from the glass? I could work out how they're attached...

Remove the bolts that hold the whole motor mechanism in place, and the wheels can be slotted into the guides easily enough, especially if you use the switch to move the motor a bit.
What would worry me is how it came to get out!

Thanks Brian, that sounds like a good approach.
The wheels aren't exactly round, bits have snapped off the edge in a couple of places, and the rubber ring around the edge is rather knackered! I think that's how they managed to come free. It may even be only one of them was engaged in the first place. The knackered wheels would also probably explain the previous strange noises. If I put it back together with plenty of grease it may be ok, even if the wheels do slide rather than rotate. Otherwise I guess I'll have to replace the whole lifter mech.

Not expensive to replace. They are normally so reliable that they're not worth very much on the second hand market.
