noise!?

Every now and again, when i turn my wheel to full lock there is a fairly loud whining noise..... what the hell is that all about!?

(as you can tell i know sod all about the mechanical side of cars!)

power steering pump squealing!! E30 PAS pumps HATE being on full lock!!

not sure if i can actually mate! apparently, all E30's are like it! though that might not be the truth. mine does it really badly!

maybe its a sign for a new pump?!

I dont think its the Pump! As they are not meant to be noisy at full lock!

Its the bearings in the steering column (NOT STEERING RACK!!! ) Take the steering wheel off and get some oil/grease down the shaft (no jokes) and i bet it helps.

Come on guys, back to basics.

BELT TENSION

Also the bushes wear and allow the pump to go out of alignment when you tension it up.

You can tell stuart works at a stealers, renound for going for the most expensive bit first and forgetting the basics, still you'll be so used to auto tensioners by now.

just coz i work for a main dealer, doesnt mean my diagnosis is set to MAXIMUM COST mode!!

dirty fluid but turned out to be slack belt.
Belt tightened prob. solved for me.
