Greetings everyone,

I have come across an odd noise when I come to L-park my cabrio in the garage. When the car is at standstill on full lock to the left, I put it into reverse and then start to turn the wheel towards full right lock. Usually this will result in a very loud creaking or groaning noise that seems to come from the steering wheel column. Usually I can feel the vibration of the noise travelling right up the steering wheel itself.

When I drive the car on the road, I never experience this noise.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the cause and how to remedy? I was told that my power steering belt had a crack in it and i'm going to get this replaced, but would this be the culprit?

Your thoughts as always would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Likewise dude, was great to be there at my first Ace's meet and good to meet up with you and the gang ! Lovely cab by the way, looks even more impressive in real life than in the photos. When are those side skirts going on - I wanna see those at some point too!

Back to topic... what fluid level are you referring to? Not really sure what I should be looking at.

Cheers

Power steering fluid is in a little brown pot just next to the fuse box. Could need a top up or bleed, dipstick is part of the lid. To bleed - jack front wheels off the ground and (with engine running) turn lock to lock a few times.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem...flushed the system and replaced the fluid, problem solved - no more groaning steering :)

Thanks everybody, I'll go for the belt and braces approach and change both the fluid and the belt. Hope this will do the trick !
