How to change steering guibo?

It's cracked and is causing increasing play in the steering.
I have a replacement coming tomorrow morning, but I can't see how to change it.

The parts circled would seem to be the ends of the bolts holding it on, but neither end appears to have any feature allowing it to be turned. The lower is simply a flat disc, while the upper looks like an allen bolt, but has no hex inside.
Do I take a set of mole grips to these, or am I on the wrong track?

when it arrives tomorrow you will see it is the whole knuckle. one bolt at the top and one at the bottom.

& if it hadn't been(so just to help other people really!), you'd have to drill those rivets out, & replace with bolts from BMW...

theres a little plastic collar which you need to change aswell that makes a big difference its only 30p or sumin silly

when you seperate the coupling to change the rubber theres a little metal prong that holds it all in line it sits in the hole that the metal prong goes in

mine needs replacing soon too so the outcome of this shall be interesting, want to replace mine with this though: ( Fifth one down below the big brake kit)

yeah polyurethene to i think

M3 ones are uprated but i dont think you can buy them seperate, screw buying the whole assembly.

its bloody cheap isnt it, might be a bit harsh to fit though!

Looking at it again, yep, they're definitely rivets. The part on order is just the rubber guibo, so it looks like I'm drilling and bolting tomorrow. Any advice on suitable bolts?

You need the proper collared bolts from the main dealer

if you unbolt it at both ends you can slide it up with a bit of wiggling an it just comes off well mine did, as for bolts jus get some that are the right width and arent too long long bmw will charge a fair bit more but its up to you ders no difference its just a nut an bolt, dont drive your car befor hand doh cos it gets f*****g hot down der!

Job done, not that bad.
13mm head bolts hold the UJ assembly on, undo both and wedge the clamps open. Slide the whole assembly further down onto the steering rack splines and the steering box end will come off. Pull it free from the steering rack. If your guibo is riveted on, cut it off before drilling/hacksawing the rivets - it makes clamping the parts in a vice much easier.
Part numbers are:
Guibo (Artic Disc) B32.31.1.153.993 £9.93
Bolt x4 B32.31.1.153.995 £6.32
Nut x4 B07.12.9.946.400 £0.60
+ VAT for all prices
Use the official BMW bolts and nuts. The bolts are machined to precisely fit the UJs and guibo; the nuts are crushed slightly to make them shakeproof and incorporate captive washers. BMW also specify 8 spring washers to go either side of the guibo holes (part number B07.11.9.932.095 ).
Before reinstalling, centre your steering wheel and road wheels and apply the steering lock to keep things still. My steering wheel position now matches my direction for the first time since I bought this car
