Don't go to nationwide for a new clutch what ever you do!
E30's have had a problem with the materials on the pressur plates, which doesn't like the heat!
I had this problem and a change of the clutch fluid helped, (undo bleed screw on slave cyclinder by gearbox- fill up resevor with new fluid over the next 10-15mins until all the old fluid has drained out.
If this doesn't help then it will probably be a new clutch time. They are only about £100 for a good shachs clutch from Eurocarparts or GSF. Fitting shouldn't be much more than £150.

Does sound like a little oil has got on to the clutch plate, but it will probably burn off on its own. Don't panic untill it becomes a permanent problem.
