Ok guys, I just last week had new rear shocks and all bushes as well as bearings. Very pleased, feels awesome compared to how it did before!
However, my rear left hand side wheel is covered in a grey like grease (has no smell) all round the inside of the rim. I had a look at it underneath and there is a fair amount of it, only on the one side. Any idea where it may be coming from?

Hmm, I wondered if it was the CV boot but it looks ok!I will get someone to look at it, but should I be worried? Just want to know if I should really be driving it around like this.

If it is the CV boot you can only get a new boot from the dealers and they're not exactly cheap or simple to fit

Ok, its not the boots they aint split at all. Its coming from the closest point where the shaft connects near the wheel. Do these things have an inner seal or something? Or am I going to have to replace the bloody shafts.

Still boot related, I'd say. Make sure the clips are tight. try replaceing them with cable ties pulled as tight as possible.

Cheers. Might as well replace it with another bloody shaft. This car does my head in sometimes, the amount of money i have spent on it is insane.

well be 100% sure there is grease a split in the boot before u go spending more on a new shaft. It is easier to replace the half shaft itself than the boot as u need a special tool for it to get the boot on.
Really it should be obvious if the boot is split josh.

The metal casing that the big end off the boot is strapped around is only a thin steel cover and the other side of it is crimpped onto the solid (splinned) metal piece that goes through the hub.
It sounds like its the crimp thats been damaged when the shaft was put back in, normaly caused when its hit from behind with a hammer rather than heating the hub to get the shaft back through.
Check just past the boot for dents caused by a hammer, normaly a good sign that its been done wrong.
The only option is to remove the shaft again, you can then either replace it (best option if someone else is paying) or try some kind of heat and oil proof glue and re-seal the seam, then re-fill the cv with grease.

This is the thing, the boot looks like new. It isnt damaged and there is no grease any where near it, the grease is all coming out near the metal part. I think Martinaston is possibly correct. They tried to seal it tonight after work, does not seem to have made it any better. I will try and phone around for a shaft tommorow I think.Really it should be obvious if the boot is split josh.
Is there any signs I should look out for before one of these gets really bad? Do they make a nasty noise or anything of the sort before they sieze.

not sure but i see wht martinaston is sayiing getting the shafts in can be a pain, but they can be pulled in with the large nut to save u beating the other end to shreds!
changing the cap on this end is a messy job!

Once they dry out and start to wear the problem escelates pretty quick and they fail soon after that, but you should hear it before it gets to that point.
May be worth having a feel of the rear wheels after a run and see if the problem side is getting hotter than the good side.

So in the end i got two off GSF, which was rather expensive. Fitted them yesterday, one is fine..but now look...the other one is leaking FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im losing it now!! Geting mad, because the two of these cost 250 quid, and I know driveshaft problems are very rare, so why is the same problem happening with a new one:(

I have circled it in red cos my camera phone aint the best! and the red line is where it appears to be coming out. from between the two metal parts. Dont know how to explain it very well.

Take the car back to them and show them whats wrong, you never know they may even pay for the labour charge.

Hmm, I cant get any one to look at it until next week. Im really tempted to bloody have a go myself at taking it off!! It seems that if you grab the silver clip in the photo you can turn both it, the boot and the metal bit around. Not like that boot is lose, but the actual piece of metal its attatched to is turning freely. Its between this piece of metal and the otherside nearest to the wheel that is leaking.
