hi again guys, hope your all well and enjoyin the lack of rain! i have been wondering, the 325ix was a four wheel drive wasnt it, would anyone have any clue if that would be a good idea to try and track one down and get the drive off and onto mine?
not heard anything about these ever, i just happened to be looking through a suppliers manual the other day and caught the 4x4bits... and it got me thinking, if i do actually get all the bits together for my 3.5 turbo conversion, one day, with the 4x4 idrive train i get a feeling it could be quite a bloody menace!
any thoughts on this or anyone with any first hand experience i would be interested to find things out!

I'd avoid it. Why spend money getting more bhp only to get a 4WD system that saps power? Most systems have around 15% - 20% drop. I cannot see the BMW 4WD system being upto modern standards and probably has even bigger loses.

just another thought to put you off (sorry) but i think the bodyshell is different up front to take the 4x4 running gear so you would have to find a good ix to transplant to not the other way round
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.

Front tower's for struts are different on a IX shell.
And they are renowned for stripping the splines on the front propshaft with just 2.5 power.....

I thought it was the driveshafts? and the splines can be made longer as then there would be more to grip i think iirc.kam-325i wrote:Front tower's for struts are different on a IX shell.

Put it this way, I own a 4x4 audi s4 and if it came with the option of being RWD i would take that every time.

Correct! You will want to find a nice ix shell rot free and start there.
Ive had a couple of ix's now and ive given them all sorts of shit and never had a problem with broken running gear. The test will be when i drop my 2.7 in the touring tho!!

I think the towers/struts are alot closer to verticle/90 degrees...(road as datum)
