I posted a fair while ago now that my gauges were slowly but surely dying on me.ANT told me to replace the batteries or get a new unit.Obviously I tried the cheaper way first(new batts)and now all the service indicator lights and gauges are working fine, accept one,the speedometer!!!!!BUGGER.....Anyway Ant said that once the batteries leak they can damage the gauges, which as I understood at the time meant the batteries acid leaks into the gauges.I found no visable damage to the gauges so I looked at a couple of American BMW websites and they implied that when the batteries leak over the SI board, this is what causes the gauges to stop working and that if I replaced the SI board, this would solve the problem......CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP AS ITS A NIGHTMARE EVERY TIME I SEE A POXY SPEED CAMERA.....THANKS.....

Are you sure it's the guages & not the connection to the diff? The wire often goes, just where it attaches to the plug on the diff.

It's possible, but I very much doubt if the batteries or SI board have anything to do with your speedo problems. The speedo is almost self contained, and doesn't rely on the SI board like some of the other instruments.
Dry joints have been known on the speedo unit, but the wire just outside the diff plug is by far the most likely cause.
