Pulled into the petrol station, filled up went to start, turning over ok but would'nt start. I put a new dizzy cap and rotor arm on. Checked all the sparks, but when i pulled off the petrol pipe and turned it over no fuel. Tried a change of relay, still no fuel. Is it the pump thats gone, i have had no warnings at all. The spark from the coil is ok but i could'nt properly check spark to the plugs, but as i say, no fuel was coming out of the fuel pipe when i turned it over.

If its an (in tank) electric pump, you can get to the connector under the rear seat base and check for 12v supply & earth while cranking engine. If these are both OK then it's a fuel pump problem.

Yes, the pump wears and jams. If you take the pump out the tank and thump it, it will go again - for a while.
Had one like this a couple of years ago, and hadn't got a spare pump. Ended up being able to remove the pump, unjamb it, and refit it in ten minutes flat.
If you look for a replacement, there are two types. One with a return fuel pipe, (325s only, I think), and ones without. The basic pump is the same, and can be swapped between the two with a little bit of effort.

Just had the same problem with mine, bought a replacement pump. Removed the old one and checked it just to make sure and the bloody thing started to work!!!!!
I'm pleased I did change it now after reading what Brianmoooore has written.... dead easy to change if you've got the intank pump (about 10-15mins) Quite expensive though I got a Bosch replacement from GSF for Ԛ£107+VAT
I woundn't bother getting the pump with complete pickup (extra Ԛ£30) cause it's really easy to swap the motors and does come with all the bits you need ie new pick up filter, connectors etc
Good luck

It will sometimes work again if you tap (gently) on the underneath of the tank but as everyone has said, it's best to just replace the pump
