I've been asking on this forum and had some really useful replies but frankly without the ability to fix the stuff even when I've been told where to look I'm just wasting people's time.
Here's a list of bits:
1. Oil pressure light - wiggled a suspicious looking wire which ran from the bottom right of the engine up towards the front. It was in a sliding sleeve rather than normal insulation (it seemed). Oil light went out for a few hours.
2. Misfire on cold start. Engine just recently decided to start on 3,4,5 cylinders and smoke/rattle until all 6 come in. Then its sweet as ever and runs just fine. Could be anything, but when looking for the oil pressure wire I found that a wire that runs from the 3rd (I think) HT lead towards the ECU has taken a trip into the fan - not quite cut through but stripped/frayed.
3. Speedo knackered. All the symptoms of the cable being knackered infront of the diff. I bought some axle stands so I could have a go at this but bottled it when I read up online about how you should put a car up on stands and realised I didn't have any chocks (or even any bricks).
4. Fuel Gauge. From the forum, it sounds likeone sender has died and the other is working. The gauge moves correctly from full (when the tank is full) to empty (when the tank is still half full). I've no idea which one is dead, and no tools/brains to fix it myself. Warning light still works. Luckily.
5. Rubber anti-rattling-bit has fallen off the tailgate, leaving the screw exposed. This is causing... rattling (SHOCKA!!) from the tailgate because the left side can now move and the bolt head is hitting the plastic guide. I'm sure I could have a crack at this, but I'd probably end up snapping the bolt, losing my temper and leaving it half done.
6. Clutch pedal swings up higher than the brake pedal, I think this is since the trim panel under the steering wheel fell off..... Clutch works fine but you can get your foot caught on the side of the pedal if you're not ready for it.
So, who should I go to for fixing this stuff? Its not exciting turbo/FI/Engine swap type stuff - just day to day fettling
I can pay in cash, curry, or fixing computers. GF has refused to sell herself to pay for car repairs, sorry about that
I could just take it to the garage, but they've failed to fix the fuel guage and the speedo so far so I think their E30 knowlege is poor, even if they're reliable for doing the 6k/12k stuff.I'm in York btw....
