Going for new rack and pinion - please help

I am going to replace the rack and pinion. It is leaking like crazy and clunks with turning the wheel back and forth. My power steering pump leaks as well so what I have done is put used tranny fluid in it for the last few months. It was already leaking like crazy and I couldnt see wasting the new fluid, which is like a quart every 2 weeks. So should I also replace the resevoir? From what I understand there is a filter in it. Can the filter be replaced alone? I want to have a good clean system and i am sure running used tranny fluid didnt help. Thanks

Filter is not replaceable or cleanable. If you're worried about it, a new bottle's not expensive.
