As is common neither the wiper or the washer systems are functioning. On the washer the pump seems to be working but no water is coming out. Also you can not blow through the disconnected pipe with the jets disconnected. So does that mean that the one-way (in-line) valve/s need replacing.

On the wiper side am waiting to get a pair of spare wiper motors so that they can be serviced and replace the in-situ ones. For the time being which is the correct resting position for the wipers? - just in case they start working again - have WD40'd and greased the shafts.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The headlamp wiper motors have their own little built in mechanical timer. Once they have started their sequence by triggering the red wire on the motor, they will continue to run to the end of their sequence, powered by the ignition switched live to the black wire,
One of the motors also contains the timer for the washer motor, so once the wipers have started their sequence, the washer motor will run.
If the washer motor is running continuously, the controlling motor has stopped part way through its sequence.
You won't unseize a motor by applying WD40 externally. The wiper shaft has to be removed, thoroughly cleaned up, lubricated, and re assembled. Will be good for another ten years then.

Thanks, Brian. Prompt and efficient as usual. Your comments were very interesting and helpful.

I recognise that the motors would have to be properly serviced but didn't know whether there might be come sort of accidental loosening, as it were, and they started to work again. If so, then I need to know which is the resting position for the wipers; to the left or, to the right?

The wash motor seems to run when the control stalk is pulled but it may of course be the vibration coming through from the windscreen washer pump on the other side of the reservoir

??? There is no direct control of the headlamp wash wipe system,
It operates every fifth time (some say sixth) that the acreen washers are used when the lights are on.
Park position is both wipers towards the centre of the car, but even if they are there, they may still be in the middle of the sequence.
