Hi All need some help.
Was pulling into driveway when brakes went soft, managed to stop before hitting wifes beemer.[more worried about mine].
I still have brakes but they do not feel right, and when I press the pedal I hear a hissing noise from the area behind glovebox. No fluid leaking as brake resevoir full. :(

Could that be a servo leak?

Yeah will be vacuum leak on servo check the pipe going to it from manifold and put hand around area and try feel where its sucking from, when you say they went soft it sounds like pedal went soft but you mean its just brakes arent working very well.

That makes more sense than the OP. Only thing I could think of was one circuit had failed, but that would have leaked fluid.

Had a try of your ideas but no sign of leak, brakes work but not 100%.
When you pump pedal sounds like bicycle pump[wifes words]

i also have this problem but have not had time to look at it properly
it sounds like air being blown every time you press the brake pedal
the servo seems to work according to a mechanic friend ,who may be no good, but he told me to hold the brakes down then start car and pedal goes down which means the servo is working ,can anyone confirm this test is true?
if you do find the cause please post so i can check ,thanks

I have tried all the tests in the Haynes manual re the servo and all seems well.I will take car to work tomorrow and see if the mechanic has an idea.

I have been under, over and inside the car and cannot find anything wrong anywhere, the servo is working, the master cylender does not leak, all brake pipes are sound no leaks or damp spots anywhere.I went for a drive and did several emergency stops hoping the master cylender would fail, nothing.mechanic went underneath and had a look and found nothing except n/s shocker leaking[more money].Opinion amongst work mates is feet got trapped when appling brakes/clutch.[wearing new doc martins].So hopefully nothing amiss but will keep an eye on the situation.
PS feeling rather stupid after panic.

Wonder if something could have got caught up on a brake disc and pushed a pad back into the caliper?
