On my last service, the fella said my clutch is on the way out and I will need to replace it in the next year...says it pops out of gear easily
Now do I need to have a new one, do you go for 2nd hand? Any tips or suggestions peeps...
finger in the air estimate all in was about £250,
and here is the knock on... does this affect anything else like the gear box etc if its knackered (the clutch), like cogs wearing etc
Clutch and knock on...

Err, if it's popping out of gear, it sounds a bit more serious than the clutch!
If it's slipping like mad alllllll the time, you might damage your flywheel with the heat, other than that, shouldn't hurt the 'box.
Get a new clutch kit, not worth using a 2nd hand clutch.

Not poping out of gear for me, and don't want to try to make it either, that was how he described it to me,
Didn't think it sounded good but I can't say I've noticed a problem. This is the only e30 I've had so might compare at the meet this weekend.

Sounds to me like the garage is fishing for work!
Do YOU think there is anything wrong?

I can't see how a knackered clutch would make it pop out of gear...
Or how he'd know that it comes out of gear easily, when it doesn't for you... It's not something you'd miss!
If you do swap it though, go new - most of the cost will be labour anyway & you don't wanna be doing it twice. I'd take it elsewhere though - sounds well dodgy to me...
If you want I'll have a look / feel of it on Sunday, or I'm sure Mark would too!

Cheers Ziggy, thats cool, we'll just have a look on Sunday.
To be fair to the garage they have been really good with everything else and previous servicing has definitely improved the car (little things like not have squeeks, rattles, everything feels tight) so I'm defo gonna give him the benefit of the doubt for now...

There is a special tool for measureing clutch plate wear on an E30, but apart from using this, there is no way to tell how much life an E30 clutch has untill it starts to slip or the release bearing gets noisy.
