How bad is it...rather than fear worst look at the cheaper options first
Has it been left standing for a while!...has the head gasket been done if so when and by who....is it using a lot of water and is there oil in the water
Dont panic at first...but cheaper options are out there
cheers

On any engine with an alloy head on an iron block the head gasket will eventually fail, so it could be just that.
On the other hand, water in oil is depressingly familiar.
Get the engine up to temperature, and the cooling system up to pressure, and remove the rocker cover with the engine idling.
Look carefully at the rearmost and next to rearmost cam bearing journals, and see if you can see little beads of water coming out.
This should be in tech help, so it's moving.
