Has anybody tried to prevent any further underneath surface rust with underseal or any recommended sealer.

I propose to wire brush off the surface rust and paint on underseal or anything better.

Regards

Ian

I've used some stuff called POR15 before on surface rust and literally couldn't believe my eyes with how it just took the rust off!

Doesn't work so well on heavier stuff though.

I use stuff called Galvafroid for treating bare steel as it actively protects the metal and self heals.

Not sure how suitable it'd be for use underneath though.

waxoyl or dinatrol are pretty much the tried and tested for these areas....don't be tempted by somthing like schoos (not sure of spelling) as this is not self-healing as the others are and if you get a break in the sealant...water gets underneath seal and your car rusts merrily away and you can't see it happening...don't forget interior of box cavities etc. as these are all moisture traps which can allow car to rust inside out (scuttle is a typical example of this which I think is discussed in an earlier thread).

Wire brush 1st and then spray on...or use pro's such as www.before-n-after.co.uk ....costs around £400 for whole car....had this done myself as I've done it too many times on previous cars and know what a messy business it is....I know this sounds alot but it's far cheaper than getting rust properly sorted after it's happened

POR15 is an excellent rust paint, but not really suitable for sealing the whole underside of a car. You could use it to repair any rust spots and the follow up with a good coating of underbody wax such as one of the Dinatrol products. Check out the Frost.co.uk website for info and prices for these items. I'm not associated in anyway with them but they are the only supplier of POR15 in the UK as far as I know. I have bought stuff from them in the past but don't think much of their customer service.

You think their prices are bad in sterling, wait till you convert to euro and get slapped with a big shipping charge

Bilt Hamber do some very good products as well.

I've used their Dynax S50 Anti corrosion wax and it seems better than Dinatrol.

fuchs do anchor wax which i use on commercial chassis.

your local fuch/silkolene stockist should get hold of it.

similar to waxoil, clear and can be applied with gun/brush.
