wooooooooooo!

my 325i has a problem when reving the engine and also when driving.

when i do either sometimes the revs seem to drop really low for a second and you think it is going to stall then it springs into life again as if nothing has happend.

this only happens when taking off from standing or just reving the car as when im up and running everything is fine.

so far i have changed the spark plugs and ht leads and im going to do the cap and rotor next and after that a tune up.

so anybody that knows anything about this please enlighten me to the problem as im worried it might be something more serious.

thanks

Clean your idle Control Valve. These things can cause all sorts of problems when not working properly. They can cause massive backfiring, uneven idle, what your explaining etc etc.

Check your intake air pipes too... a split in the intake bellows could cause running problems.

just cured my idle reving problem and the snatching that occured at below 2k revs on a trailing throttle by cleaning my IRC...just took it off and swilled it thoroughly with carburettor cleaner ..they do a how to on e36.com so it must be a common fault...i was just about to chane all the hoses!!!

Clean the ICV anyways, allways worth the effort

Check the TPS under the throttle body is working OK and adjusted correctly, if not, set it up and re-evalute M8

the middle pin of the three is "common", the one to the front should have continuity between itself and middle with the throttle closed only, should have nothing as soon as you move the throttle arm, then open the throttle fully and test the centre-rearmost pins for conti.
