Got opening rear quarters in my car with smoked glass fitted.
Problem is the frame was originally chrome and has been painted Black, which is now starting to flake

Thought about changing just the offending piece of trim but looks a bit fragile to do just that, dont really fancy ripping it off only to find i cant get the new one back on so i was thinking........................

can i remove the glass from the main frame and refit it into a proper Black frame?

Will this be easier/neater than trying to change just the chrome trim?

Anyone done this before?
Easy?

I Might be wrong here, but I seem to remember that the metal frame is riveted around the rubber & glass....

I'd say NOT easy.

it looks like you drill out the two rivets at the bottom clamp of the window frame (there is one at the top as well) and the window should slide out forwards
looking at it i think i will remove my windows so i can get a good finish on the frame if you would like some more photos let me know
hope this helps

So if your removing your glass, any chance of keeping me informed as to how you get on?
Want to get this sorted as it makes the car look scruffy!

OK got the rear windows out was quite an easy job really did'nt break anything and only stabbed myself with the screwdriver once :?

first off i drilled the two rivets out from the bottom clamp and removed it this allowed the bottom trim to come off Image

in these photos the top clamp is still attatched but should have been removed by drilling out the rivets it only came off because the rivet was worn.once both brackets are off and thelower trim has been removed then you can stert levering off the top trim but be very carefull as the alluminium bends very easily and mine had a lot of sealer on it but when you are finished you should have something like this
