does anyone have a decent pic or diagram off their propshaft? i took mine to bits last week to get some engineering work done to the cosworth end on mine, now i cant remember which way around the centre bearing went  does the rubber bit on the bearing that sticks out point towards the gearbox or the diff ?the oem parts pic isnt really that clear.

does this help? it's a M3 one with a ripped rubber but the fact the metal hoop is offset should identify it.

what part is breaking?

i wonder if it's worth incorporating a prop redesign to allow removal with the diff in-situ? (eg a additional bolt-up flange?) would involve balancing as an assembly though.

or better still, beef it up so it doesn't break!

the prop centre bearing keeps breaking, the metal circle around the bearing thats welded to the carrier keeps snapping, the last one lasted about 2 hours before a hard launch with lots of wheelspin killed it instantly .when the garage done the conversion they didnt balance the prop,it was cut at the centre bearing and the front half of a cosworth prop welded on,the prop specialist said it was a poor job with a worn universal joint so they made up a new front section and balanced it.i asked them to put in another joint but they said they cant do that for some technical reason that went straight over my head but they garuantee it will be fine now.so its just another corner the engine conversion 'specialist' cut for the sake of £75 thats come out in the wash. :x

this is the exact reason i never trust any garages to modify stuff! if it reaches a stage where there's either a 'proper' or a 'quick' way of doing a job, you bet it won't be the same way i'd do it!

sounds like you've had a fair amount of grief caused by the bunch that put your cossie in haven't you?

at least i only have myself to blame for anything stupid i did!!! :D

ive had a few problems with it yes,but you expect things to go wrong with something like that,he bit of more than he could chew as a 1 man outfit even though he is a cossie specialist and made unrealistic promises rather than being truthful from the start, quoting 2 weeks then taking 17 weeks being the most annoying.to be fair though ive had no where near as much problems with this one as i had with the last guy who cossie converted my rwd toyota celica, with that one i had the car on the road for about 4 weeks out of the first 8 months.there not many garages left that will even takle jobs like that anymore.

i suppose it'll scare the hell out of most garages!

have you not picked up enough know-how to have a crack yourself with the next one? assuming you're planning on doing another project sometime...

my M30 conversion is undoubtably more straightforward but so much more rewarding as apart from knowledge from here and muscle from some mates, the entire conversion was done by me.
