Hello
I have a 318is and I want to change the o/s front leg with that of another 318is because the wheel bearing is shot?
Is this tricky?
Can anyone give us some tips of how to do this?

very easy mate...  if i remember correctly, 6 nuts in total and it will drop off.. you should have 1x 17m and 1x 19m bolted onto the bottom of the leg, 1x 15m from the drop link and the 3 nuts on the top of the susp mount under the bonnet....

Little bit more to it than that.
Two of the nuts are attached to taper joints which will need splitting, and the tracking will need checking/adjusting afterwards.

i ve checkin the how to forums and they only say how to replace just the bearing assembly
your help is most appreciated as i have to do this at the weekend

Ah well, just appreciate the E30s more afterwards I supose.
The "leg" is a slang term for the whole suspehsion strut complete with spring and damper. A large asswmbly, but easier to change than the bearing.
Brake caliper will also need to be changed over, which is two 13mm nuts plus a 14 or 15mm to hold the slide still, OR, if the brake caliper is a different make, I thingk the caliper bracket may have to be changed over.

however a key specialist tool required is the large socket for the center nut,
i'd be guessing a bit so I wont risk wasting your time,
however after the weekend i will now more if your still asking

Easy enough to change, but, as noted above, needs a special socket and costs money - you can't use a good second hand one, as they can't be pulled off without damage. (Although I did get one off intact once.)Ziggy wrote: what's involved with changing just the bearing then?
