Hi,has anyone in the southampton area have a 323i car that I could look at? I have an old E30 with the 2.3 engine and one of the vacuum hoses blanked off,and I need to know where it should lead to so I can get the car running!

Thanks

Rod

rodderz, where is the other end of the hose connected to - or what part of the engine/manifold has been blocked off (not sure exactly which you meant)

Any E30 engine will run OK with a blanked off vacuun connection.
Whatever the vacumn connection is for. it's to feed something external to the engine, like a servo, or emissions gear.
My guess (based on absolurely nothing) is the servo connections have been simplified and this is the spare connection of the big air hose.

Hi mate

I just had a look at my '83 323i the hose thats missing is not a hose, its where the cold start injector should be. There should be a fuel pipe leading up to it and a blue 2pin injector connector (and injector, obviously).

Do you have cold start problems??

Pure guess work, since I've never seen a 323i, and know nothing about them, but cold start valves were only used on early fuel injection systems. As ECUs became more sophisticated, the cold start injector was deleted and replaced by the ECU increasing the duty cycle of the normal injectors instead.
This could be the reason that some 323s have them, and some are blanked.

thats right.

My 323i is an '83 model, I think by '85 the start valve was done away with. Whenever I go into GSF with year and model they keep asking me if its an E21!

In that case, Mr Rodderz, if you post up the number on your ECU, someone should be able to tell you if your injection system should have the cold start valve or not.
