clicking noise

seem to have lost the last message i sent so here it is again... I have a clicking noise that sounds like the tappets tho it seems to be comming from the gear box area can anyone put light to it ? It is a 320i touring.

Other possibilities I can think of, but none of which I'd really describe as sounding like tappets, are, the infamous E30 gearbox idler rattle, which is harmless. The exhaust rattling in the mount off the rear of the gearbox, or the guibo breaking up.

i was gonna suggest that it might be a small crack in the exhaust manifold, where the pipe comes out of the actual manifold???

More details please! What effect does pushing in the clutch have?
