hi all
am wiring a alarm to my e30 325se auto and need some help
i have wired part of the remote start
the car trys three times to start but i have one wire and am not sure where to conect it it is to sens when the engine is running
without this wire conected the car stops the engine then trys again three times
where can i conect it to tell the alarm the engine is running

i have the remote start on my 325, never fitted it as it was on the car when i bought it.
if you are near newcastle you can take a look at mine and compare if you like?
also when you get it working.......if you put the hand brake on slightly (just to make connection and a circuit) then when you remote start it.....

Ignore that lot (black/yellow, blue). you want the black wire to the tacho.
It should run from the dials across the dash to the glovebox before going into the fusebox and back out to the engine plug, so anywhere along there depending on where you've put the alarm.
You have to warm the engine before you program the alarm to get the rev's down as low as possible.
Happy hunting, there's about another 70 wires under there

The last remote start alarm that I got involved in required a signal from the blue alternator wire. This wire has 0V on it with the engine stopped and 12V to 14V+ on it with the engine running.
It can be done with the black wire from the DME (most LPG ECUs use this method), but the signal has to be integrated to get an "engine running" signal.

I fitted a remote start alarm last year sometime and had a stripped wire wrapped around the HT lead coming from the coil, without it fitted the car wouldn't start (remotely) although it would try.

How the particular ststem fitted determines whether the engine is running will differ between different systems. Three methods have been listed above, but the simplest one by far is the blue lead from the altenator.
0V = engine stopped. Low impedance simple 12V+ present = engine running. No messing around with electronics integrating ignition pulses in some form or another.
