I've found out that the rad fan on my E30 M3 is locked solid. Having asked at munich legends a new BMW part is nearly £200.
Does anyone know if the radiator fan on the E30 M3 is that same as any other E30 models or any othe BMW cars?
quick quesion

Welcome to the zone from the mods.
I'm not entirely sure, but AFAIK, the aircon fans of E34 five series, similar age 7 series and probably several other models are all the same or close enough. Even found one off an old Ford Granada that looked like it would fit

Are you talking about cooling system radiator main fan or an aircon one.?
Which engine do you have?

Think wires may be crossed here!
I'm referring to the aircon fan, (which becomes the main fan on M50 conversions.)
Are you meaning that the viscous coupling on the engine driven fan is locked?
AFIK, the M3 one ids the same, though I'm not at all sure.
I think that I've only ever come across two versions of the coupling - the E30 size and a slightly larger version off other models including the E39.

P.S. If you buy a second hand one, make sure its been stored upright on its edge.

Going on price, I think he's on about the electric fan.
Euro Car Parts do a replacement for £130 (cheapest ive found) or like Brian says E32/E34 aircon fan, although they are about 2 inches larger diameter and only just fit so you will need to make up a couple of brackets.
The E32/E34 fan is a much better one from my experiance.

E30 M3 doesn't have a viscous, only electric fan (unless you are in the US were they have both) and any A/C fitted E30 will have the same fan as an M3. The E30 electric fan is unique to the E30 as has been said.
Dealer electric fans don't come with a resistor, you have to buy seperate.
C3 sell the fan, and it will include the resistor, they are about £170 new.

Wouldn't be surprised if the actual motor was the same as the E34 unitSimon wrote:E30 M3 doesn't have a viscous, only electric fan (unless you are in the US were they have both) and any A/C fitted E30 will have the same fan as an M3. The E30 electric fan is unique to the E30 as has been said.

Cheers for the replies, It was the elec rad fan i was after, I'm not posh enough for air con!
Ended up getting a almost new one of mosley motorsport so i'm now back on the road.
Only problem i have now is that the fan is constantly on when the ignitions on. Has anyone ever had this before?

Sounds like a thermal switch wiring issue. Anyone else concur?
Check for continuity across thermostat switch on rad normally.
If not that then relay/short problem. Will check circuit diag 2nite.

Could be temp switch or relays. First I would swap relays K1 and K6 with one the same in the fuse box, this proves the relays are fine (if the fan is the same)
Forgot about this thread, the fan motors are different, the E34 is deeper and has a different blade mounting, but they are the same diameter
