Can anyone tell me, please, how the black plastic threaded bush and the white square plastic tube go together?
Is it just a case of brute force?
I've sussed that the bush screws onto the threaded bar (attached to the lamp body) and then it sits in the carrier.
At the moment, I've got that far and the tension spring and twistlock thingy are holding it all tight, but I can't adjust the lights.
TIA
Stuart.

I have the post facelift model year '88.
I believe only one of the adjusters needs to be turned.
Are you able to supply a pic for comparison?

This is the set-up on a facelift car. The threaded adjuster is item 9. It is held into the lamp body by a plastic cup, item 11. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=63&fg=05

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=63&fg=05 As you can see, the threaded adjuster is captive on the lamp body. The adjustment is done by the bush, item 5, which fits in fron the front of the car. This pushes through the support frame and the square tube, item 6 is the means of adjusting the lamp, which is done from behind - in the engine bay.
Item 6 looks to be a push-fit on to item 5. I can't get them to snap together, that's what the problem is.

Oh right.
Now I think I remember.
My last e30 was a 318i on a 'B' plate and I had to replace one of those a couple of years ago.
A lot's happened since then and I've been doing too much work on my newer facelift model now so for the life of me I can't quite remember which way I did it. If I had it in front of me to hold in my hands I would probably remember.
If you don't manage to sort this by the weekend, I will be going up a local lockup I have to collect a few bits and I'm sure I have a light cluster there as a spare to have a ganders at, maybe even be able snap a photo.
I'll check back in a day or so.

Hi essbee
Sorry but cannot find the spare headlamp.
Am trying to source one now for me to have a look.
Let us know if you get it sorted.
