Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

I assume that if you just want a minimum OBC retrofit - i.e. no code function, no fuel pump cutout and no second horn you don't need the relax box but it would be nice if someone could confirm this for sure.

Just to be clear, I assume that the loom and OBC unit are all you really need and the stalk can be added optionally to this, but in either case you don't have to have the relay box.

Many thanks

I've fitted a 13 button OBC from a 325e in my 318is. From the 325 i took the OBC, loom, stalk, relay box, and buzzer. The only parts i've fitted are the loom, OBC, and stalk and i have the following functions: Time/Date, Avg speed, Max Speed alert (but it doesnt make a noise), Timer, Consumption, Range, Fuel remaining. I don't have the code function, and the temp sensor reads -22F all the time. At some point i'll add the relay box and buzzer but i doubt i'll ever get round to connectiong anything more to the relay box cos i'm not sure how the code function works and whether it would end up stopping me from starting the car somehow :?

Out of interest, anybody know which chip i should fit to the OBC and where i can get it because atm it believes i have a 60 litre petrol tank instead of 45 litres so the fuel remaining and range are way out....

Simon

That's really helpful thanks.

Confirms what I suspected although I had overlooked to mention the temp sensor and bonger which I'd like to fit for completeness. I'm pretty confident they don't need the relay box (I'd put money on it!).

Can't hep with the fuel tank (get a 60 litre one??). I thought the 318 wasn't offered with an OBC option and, if that's true, you may be stuck.

IMHO, the code function is useless. It's a silly way to organise an immobilier; very fiddly to live with and easy to defeat (disconnecting the battery for a minute or so removes the code.

Dodgem,

For a 318is you need the OBC Codeplug type 4-1
Part number is 6581-1385 937.9
Tank will be 55 litres on a 318is

Cheers Sharknose, that'll make it fit just that wee bit better than it does now :) Need to find a temp sensor next and the wiring to join to my OBC loom then it's as done as i would like it.
