Picked up a stock 260 (325i) gearbox with my engine yesterday, need to choose if i keep my current box of use this one, is there any way of checking for wear?

I engaged a gear and held the output shaft whilst turning the input one back and forth, i could feel a little bit of slack, is the normal or a sign of wear?

Cheers
