Hey folks, anyone had problems with their rear sunroof drains rusting away, coz mine are totally gone and water is leaking in!!!

Anyone in the Edinburgh area that could recommend where to get a second hand sunroof assembly?? And are they the same for 2/4door, yeah?? I'm gonna try some of the local scrappies.

Cheers Paul.

AFAIK, the sunroof drains are part of the bodyshell. You'll need to remove the headlining to investigate what can be done

I can sympathise with this as I have bought a nice 318is that I am using as a run around that has the same problem. Both rear foot wells were wet and when I stripped the interior to find the cause, I found that the sunroof drain pipes had come adrift of the roof because the area around the drains in the roof had rotted away. It is an odd problem as the rest of the car is in nice condition (but I have to say it is a pretty poor design).

I have now fitted a new sunroof seal which has cut down on the amount of water getting in but I may end up sealing the sunroof as it never gets used anyway and a full repair would end up costing more time / money than the car is worth!

Yeah, I've got the same probs on my sport. Sealed the sunroof for now, till the summer when I can (hopefully) investigate further.

Few months ago I bought an imaculate touring. Parked it outside for a couple of days last week (been under cover since I bought it), and when I went to get something out of it through one of the rear passenger doors, I knelt on the carpet under the rear seat squabs, (which were in the folded position).
I came out with a decidedly wet knee. No idea where the water came from, but the rear of the sunroof is suspiciously directly overhead!
May be able to advise on this repair in the future!

I'm a bit upset of this problem as I got rid of an identical shell (with a perfect roof) only a few months ago. Got to be honest though, it looks like it would be an awkward repair job to cut a section out of a scrapper and weld it back in. I did consider a fibre glass fix but decided against it!
