Sure i've read that the mid-box has a x-over (anyone care to confirm this) that assist torque or something, but is the rear box as important?
Looking to replace it using a new spare non-e30 Mongoose backbox using my powers of bodge
Cheers

The standard mid box on my 325i was just two pipes running into a single chamber and then back into two pipes - basically what a crossover would do.
I dont think the backbox will affect torque too much, unless you put a huge straight through dustbin on there

Cut the middle box out and whack on your rear box, it will sound awsome and you won't lose any torque! It does'nt matter with the 6 pot, you can only but gain
Neil (Nelly) has cut the middle box out and has a standard rear box on Sarah's (Weezie) car (320i Baur) and it definately has'nt lost any torque!

I've heard that if you geta second standard downpipe can be cut to the right size, once this is done cut out the center section and welded in the downpipe... In theory will sound lovely! I'll try it when i get to scrappy!

and get pulled over for having a stupidly loud exhaust... and have your ears bleeding all the time... sounds like great fun for a daily driver

Having no centre section doesnt make it a hell of alot louder.
As far as it sounding better, this is down to personal preference.
The exhaust does end up sounding a little monotone though.
There is no evidence to suggest a loss of low end torque even though I have suggested this myself.

Cool, thanks for the replys everyone, just wanted to make sure i was not going to end up losing power/torque etc
Will start by fitting the backbox, doubt it will be any louder than the one thats on now, just better condition!
Cheers
