Hi,

Firstly will a shot Diff bush fail MOT, well perished not exactly hanging out... secondly my ABS woes.. usual stuff.. light goes on with ignition, stays on continiously even when driving..

Whats the chances of this not getting picked up on MOT as bulb isnt in dash right now..long shot i know but with the new computerized MOT's will this show up as being ABS eqipped?

can see this little lot costing me a small fortune of what i havent got. :(

The missing ABS lamp is a MOT failure point.
It has to be present, and follow the correct sequence as the engine is started. The ABS itself is not testable.
Whether the computer "knows" that the car has ABS, or the tester notices the ABS components is another matter.

Your oil pressure light follows the same sequence as the ABS light at start up.
Hint: The ABS light and the oil light are only the length of two 3" pieces of wire apart.

What hes saying is swap the wires around so it appears that the oil pressure light is on not the ABS

I'm not saying anything that could help you to fraudulantly obtain an MOT certificate, or could lead to the cancellation of your insurance in the evet of a claim, but it's not unknown to come across cars where the ABS lamp has been wired in parallel with the oil pressure light.

I don't understand. You should be wanting to fix the problems before the MOT test, Not cover them up so the tester doesn't notice them.

I'm sure JAMZ is just trying to buy some time.
No doubt he'll be fixing both these problems shortly after he's got his ticket for the year.
You should have seen some of the things I got up to years ago to get Minis through MOT!

rewiring the abs is genius. my mate a crappy e36 with the abs light on and he failed his mot on it. so he took a small photo of his sister, put it over the abs light and went to another station and hey presto... MOT!!!

Hmmm Brian you didn't do some work on an old Astra van 15 years ago did you.....

I remember my neighbour moaning that his van had broken down... turned out he had NO oil in it and the cam had seized in the head.

Turns out the oil pressure switch was wired in parallel with the starter circuit, so the oil light came on with the ignition, and off after the engine had started.... very handy tip!

I did an amazing bodge job on the van and it ran soooo quiet and smooth afterwards i was totally stunned! (apparently you can get a cam from a 1.4 nova to fit a 1.6 Astra... a bit of grinding and drilling, job done!)

Il fix it ASAP but its not been on my list of 'tjhings to do' and tracing that problem cvan be a pain in the japside... my ABS works fine just got this dam light on all the time atm..

im obvioulsy missing something...the ABS bulb is on a wire coming out of one of the bulk connectors if i remember cuz i taped it back round it..and i thought the oil bulb was just on a bayonet connector that got its contact from the board its screwed into? .. anyone know what colour that oil wire is??

need a ''thick cu*t explanation please'' :)

When i was painting the engine the outher day and thought id try my hand at tidying up the engine bay a bit too as the manifold was off etc i noticed one of the ABS sensors was disconnected... :)

You know whats coming right..? winkeye

I thought to myself 'i wonder if.....na cant be that simple', as the ABS bulb was taken out when i brought the car and me not knowing about e30's didnt think anything of it or that the car even had ABS..so i connected em back up and thought nothing of it...

today i was going to sort the problem bulb out for the MOT and hey presto!.. ABS light went off after engine was started..LMAO!

fingers crossed i dont see it pop back on once i take it for a drive in a min..:)

bought time i had a bit of luck

Well put it this way.. i prolly drove for 15 mins, maybe 2-3 miles ish and didnt feel any problems which were obvious, obvioulsy i didnt stamp on em but il do that next time i take it out as youve made me curious..

but gut feeling says its sorted, though even i was surprised the tradesman who sold me the motor didnt check the plugs before he pulled the bulb or if it wasnt him then the seller, either way kind of strange..

but then i didnt check that either...seing the bulb out took my train of thought away from it being something so trivial, its not like they just pop apart..

anyway..yrs ticket will do for now :)
