I have just had a bit of a scare whilst drving my 325! Was minding my own business when I hit a bump and the car started behaving very strangely, accompanied by a rather odd squeeking noise from the offside rear suspension.
Fearing the worst I got home and got the torch out only to find what looks like a shattered spring stuck under the car.
Some of the spring is still in a coil, and a bit more of the spring looks to have either come adrift or folded over on itself, as it is now sticking up the inside of the srping. The plastic coating has splintered and come off so it does lead me to believe the spring has snapped.
The car also is sitting low on the offside rear corner.
Does it sound like the spring has snapped to you guys?
Now I don't think I should be driving it, so what would I need to change that spring?
Any help much appreciated!
Cheers,
Greg

I had this happen on the front of my old Volvo 260. One spring snapped followed about a week later by the other.
The amasing thing was that they both snapped in exactly the same place and the fractures were so similar that you could get the bit from the left hand spring, and it would almost exactly fit the right hand one!
Anyway, yes, replace them as a pair as everyone says

This has happened to 1 of my E30's, also the rear too, but it snapped almost at the end of the coil, so didn't realise it had snapped until it was removed!
