Think you've just found out why the ATF was changed just before you bought it.delboy8000 wrote:hi all,my 325 switch auto has started playing up,ie,slipping out of gear now and then, the atf was changed b4 i bought the car 10 months ago so guess i should change it,how easy is it to do?and what type of fluid and how much will i need?cheers.
Draining ATF is done by removing the dipstick tube at the bottom, catching what oil comes out, then removing the sump for the rest.
Refilling is done through the dipstick tube.
Takes 3 litres of Dexron II ATF.

I agree with Brian on this one.
My mum had a switchable auto 325i touring and that had an atf and filter change as part of a service, it ran ok for a while but then started playing up. Maybe thinking that when the old atf was drained out that all the crap floating around in there got dragged through certain parts, hence it started to play up.
Been thinking about changing it on my switchable auto touring, got doubts about doing it tho?????????????? consequences?????????????
Perhaps Brian can shed some light on this 'theory' of mine?????

There's only one thing to do with an auto as far as I'm concerned, and that's rip it out and put in a manual.
I have three autos here, but they will all eventually become manuals woth M50 or M20B27 engines.
