Driving on motorway yesterday in my 1991 325i sport when all of a sudden the oil pressure light comes on....within minutes the car lost power and within a mile came to a complete holt. Oil levels and temp were fine.
Struggles to turn over and has a metal against metal grinding noise? stuck on road for 3 hours and had to be toed home.
Can anyone suggest whats gone wrong and what damage ive done?
Complete engine failure - help!!!??

Sounds like oil pump gone, engine f***ed.
ClemQ Why would the oil light come on if the belt broke?

Massive - oil pressure light means STOP RIGHT NOW. INSTANTLY!! Bit difficult on a motorway, but you should have been over to the hard shoulder ASAP with the key already off.
Oil light coming on is not a good sign at any time, and the end result may not have been any different, but your engine is now what we technicaly call "totaly fu**ed". Head may be salvageable, but the rest is now an expensive door stop.

Thought that might be the case, unable to pull over before it was too late.Brianmoooore wrote:!!!!!!!massive wrote:....within minutes the car lost power ?

Would a E36 2.8 fit in easy enough? Does anyone want some cash in hand?

E36 2.8 will fit in OK using off the shelf parts from various sources, with no serious machining or fabrication neccessary except for parts of the exhaust system.massive wrote:.

Whether you consider it easy depends on your definition of easy.
