Sometimes get problems getting my 320i manual into gear from cold. Have to find any forward gear that will engage, move it an inch or so, then re-select first to get going. similar problem in reverse. seems ok when warmed up, but still sticky in to first at the lights, on occaison. will check air in clutch hydraulics asap, but are e30's prone to gearbox problems like this? - ps clutch bites pretty high up on pedal travel, so i don't suspect worn out clutch disc.

Have you checked to see if there is any oil in the gearbox? could be a starting point?
