on my way back after a minor accident on the way to aces.. and...
ive lost gears 1,3,5 and R it wont stay in place, is alright if i hold it in..
i drove home, checking the temp all the way, seemed fine... parked up,,, left it running for a bit,,, and loads of steam came out,, temp was near the red, water thing bubbling away,
waited a bit for it to cool,, and i hear a very unhealthy noise when trying to start up again,,, so immediatly turned off...
can anyone help diagnose a problem, and tell me whats wrong/what needs to be done?? ive got a spare gear box if the gear box is gone,, but the engine is scaring me at the mo! i cant see anything wrong it!
gearbox query and engine overheating query.. please help :(

Did both start at the same time ?
Sounds exactly the same as what happened to my old 320i, the engine/gearbox mounts broke, causing the whole lot to move forward. Fan got stuck on the rad causing the overheating, and not enough movement on gear linkage to lock R,1,3,5.

oh right! nice one,, will most liekly be the linkages,, yeah the 2nd and 4th gear feel really loose. so prob gone in their favour...
but my fan is working fine :(all i can think of is a pipe has got squished... and not allowing th water to pass,, so pressure has built up..
