325 diff in a 318?

Ignoring the differences in final drive ratios, will a 325 diff be a straight swap replacement for a 318 one? Mine's knackered and I can get hold of a 325 one quite easily from a mate.

Yes, it will fit. BUT......the propshaft is about 30mm too long. To get around this, remove the exhaust centre box and the heat shield, slacken the big collar nut on the prop (just behind the centre bearing) and tap the end of the prop in on the splines. When the diff is on and the prop bolted up, retighten the collar nut.

I did this job on a 320i (same small housing 4.1 diff) on Friday.

I have a good 4.1 small diff here, Ԛ£25 if you want it. I'm between Nottingham and Sheffield.
