I have been looking into a methane or gas system for my 320i 1988 cabrio and wanted to know if a gas system would harm the engine, if the conversion is simple and if there would be any side affects?
I live in Italy and these gas systems are more and more popular with the polution problems in Turin were I live.
Also, which system would be better? Methane is very cheap and I believe clean burning and is becoming popular here as Fiat are making new cars also with methane fuel.
Cheers for any advice and if anyone knows of any good websites for info then they'd be much appreciated.
Looking forward to the Italian summer!
GPL or methane gas conversion?

I've been running a '89 325i on propane for four and a half years with no problems other than what to do with all the money I've saved on fuel.
Running on gas is far better for the engine than running on petrol, because gas does not contaminate the oil like petrol, nor wash oil off the cylinder bores like petrol does with a cold engine.
You have to find room for a tank of course. Mine (50 litres) sits in the spare wheel well.. Which system to go for depends mainly on which fuel is easiest for you to get locally.
