Comes complete. Be sure to be sitting down when they tell you the price.

How much - about £25 ? - parts site says $39 but I assumed this was out of date

Is this something you could ask your mechanic to do or is it too fiddly (could have a go myself but no time at the mo), my guy is a grumpy bassa at the best of times but the motor is going in in a week due to a non-starting problems - would he bite my head of if I asked him to replace the OBC backlight as well?

Its £25 with vat iirc.

When i heard the price i made a trip down to Maplin, bought some bulbs for under a quid and soldered them on myself.

If he knows exactly how to do it, he won't be too keen.
If he has anything above average sized hands, then he won't be keen at all.
If he has no idea how to do it, then he won't know what he's letting himself in for.
Change the lamp that illuminates the buttons for a nice new one as well while its out.

I don't buy from Maplins, I use a firm called CPC.
I've posted the part numbers on here before, so a search should throw them up.
They are small wire ended lamps, but they are FIVE VOLTS. not 12.

They didnt really have the correct ones in Maplins but i got them anyway, theyve done the job. RS components sell a better suited one iirc.

But yes just remember they are 5V bulbs!
